Halves Don’t Count

We recently took a short trip up north to see some beloved family and friends. While we were there, I was reminded that our life in Christ is not a half-in half-out, genie relationship.

You are either all in or all out. Try as you may, say what you want, think what you will, but our lives display our personal decision of whose side we are really on.

You simply cannot live for Christ with the mentality that you’ll live for Him with one foot in (spiritually) and one foot out (earthly).

  • You’ve seen it.
  • Maybe you have lived it.
  • Maybe you are living it.

Some declare their position of commitment to Christ yet the lives they live display what truly lies within. They believe they can fool others, even God. Maybe their deception works for a time, but reality is this: they themselves are the fooled.

Some do not need to declare, they simply live Christ. Knowing their fallen yet forgiven state, with all their being they strive to bring glorify and obedience to God in all things (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Commitment to Christ is a non-negotiable; it just is. Period.

This believer would be the first to tell you, “I’m not perfect” yet ooze Christlikeness. They care for souls and tell others about Christ because they are sourced in Christ.

A life lived half-in and half-out is a oxymoron. You cannot have both. This is not living the life God intended for you to live as His child. If the world is calling, demanding, luring you in louder than Christ Himself, it may be time to reflect on whether you are truly born again (eternal life), truly God’s child.

Christ has no need to defend His position as God. He already is God, therefore, already deserves our worship, commitment, allegiance, faithfulness, love, etc. It is our rightful place to submit to His righteousness and holiness through worship, praise, obedience, imitation (put-on), adoration, love, and commitment.

Christ isn’t legalistic, it is we who choose to be legalistic. Men over centuries have tried, some seemingly to accomplish, but Christ, He is the same yesterday, today, and will be forever.

  • God’s plan is perfect.
  • God’s ways are perfect.

There is no more perfection we could make upon God’s plans.

The fight is ourselves.

  • We see ourselves as kings and queens sitting upon our thrones, reigning within and without.
  • We see ourselves in change.
  • We don’t want to submit because we want the power to live our own will.

Half-living doesn’t count. Half-living isn’t living.

It matters how we live today; our future will proclaim it.

“Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. For by the grace [of God] given to me I say to everyone of you not to think more highly of himself [and of his importance and ability] than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has apportioned to each a degree of faith [and a purpose designed for service] (Romans 12:1-3 AMP).

How are you living?

Your “Egypt”

“Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD” Isaiah 31:1.

  • What or who is your “Egypt”?
  • What or who do you run too?
  • What or who do you trust in?
  • What or who do you think will provide for you more than God Himself will?
  • What or who looks bigger, better, or more powerful?
  • What or who seems to satisfy, fulfill, complete, and gratify you other than God?

What or who is filling God’s shoes in your life – or can that even be possible?

The personal act of running towards, trusting in, or thinking ‘something’ or ‘someone’ other than God will fulfill you will always end in disappointment. The alleged completion, false gratification, so-called satisfaction over Christ only leads to self—destruction; for to conquer is to stand in Christ alone. It is not through selfish ambition or earthly manners that we will win battles, it is only through Jesus Christ (Romans 8:37-39).

  • Isaiah 31:2 – God will not share His glory with another…period. This is His rightful place.
  • Isaiah 31:3a – Human flesh is just that, human. We are made in the image of God (what a precious gift from God), yet we are fallen men filled with sin and in need of a Savior (thanks to Adam and Eve). Man is just that, a man…not God. Man’s tools are perishable just as a man is. God is not disposable nor will He ever be. God is spirit, eternal, everlasting. God is God!
  • Isaiah 31:3b – God is just. He is just towards you; He is just towards others, despite what we think. Justice is a God character. He is just, therefore He walks and lives out justices 100% of the time just as much as He is love, merciful, and holy 100% of the time. God cannot contradict Himself.

Whatever you allow your trust to rely on, whatever it is you cling to other than God, my friend, there is One greater.

Isaiah warned Israel, “Don’t do it. Woe to that man or woman who allows Egypt (in our case…someone or something else) to take the place that rightfully already is God’s in the first place.” Egypt looked good. Egypt was very strong.

But there was a problem, Egypt could not do what God could for Israel and your “Egypt” cannot either!

  • Who or what is taking the place of God in your life?
  • Isn’t it time we turn to God with all of our heart, with all of our soul, with all of our mind and with all of our strength (Luke 10:27; Mathew 22:37)?
  • Isn’t it time we love God with 100% of us just as He loves us?
  • Isn’t it time we cast away our “what” and “who” and draw near to God?
  • Stop giving God your scraps; He didn’t give you His. God has given us everything, including His Son – redemption, new life, eternal security, relationship.
  • Friend, we are warned – just as Isaiah prophesied many years ago, be wise in what you choose. The choices we make now affect our future.
  • The final decision is ultimately yours; no one can make it for you. It must come from within you. There must be a turning point, a change of direction – God’s direction! I cannot change your mind or make you, but I surely can encourage you to choose God!
  • Friend, choose God over your “what” or “who”. It can be difficult to see past fear, questions or the unknown – but doesn’t Christ already have the answer(s) for you? Isn’t God…God? Isn’t He capable to fulfill, sustain, provide, conquer for you or fix your situation?
  • He can, He will but we must believe Him, trust Him, and hand yourself over in submission…and get out of the way. Don’t let your pride get in the way of obedience.

God longs for you!God loves you!God smiles when He sees you!God likes you!

Did you know that?

The decision is yours.

  • Will you take your step of faith in Jesus Christ?
  • Will you trust God through allowing Him to fill your “what” and/or “who” and commit to Him?
  • Stay close to Him, be in the Word, connect yourself to a Bible preaching church…one that stands on God’s Word alone.
  • God will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5; Isaiah 41:10). You draw near to God, God will draw near to you (James 4:8; Jeremiah 29:12-14). You seek first the kingdom of God, He will add His precious, perfect will unto you (Matthew 6:33). You call unto Him, He will show you great and mighty things you couldn’t even image (Jeremiah 33:3).
  • Did you know that He (Jesus) came that you would live an abundant life in Him – a life full, a life worth living (John 10:10).

“What” or “who” is your choice?

God Said it, BUT…

God said it. Written words printed in red and black.

Life giving words.

But, does that settle it?

  • We say these words so flippedly but often we mean, “God said it, but I’ll pick what I what to follow from the Bible.”
  • Or “God said it, but I have a better answer or opinion God.”

➡Proverbs 23:6-8 says, “Do not eat the bread of a selfish man, or desire his delicacies; for as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “Eat and drink!” but his heart is not with you. You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten, and waste your compliments.” (nasb)

  • This “wicked man” also means, evil man or stingy; for he/she is like one who is inwardly calculating (Prov. 28:22).
  • As “he thinks…so he is” has the meaning of reckoning in his soul; his/her behavior, one who manipulates.
  • Not with you” means this person (the wicked man/women) is begrudging the cost.
  • Compliments” = don’t waste your pleasant words.

➡Psalm 114:4 says, “Do not incline my heart [consent to or tolerate] any evil thing, or to practice deeds of wickedness with men who plan and do evil; and let me not eat of their delicacies [be tempted by their gain].” (amp)

➡Proverbs 26:24-28 states,

Here are two over versions for our study:

CEB– Hateful people mislead with their lips,

  • keeping their deception within. Though they speak graciously, don’t believe them, for seven horrible things are in their heart. They may cover their hatred with trickery, but their evil will be revealed in public. Those who dig a pit will fall in it; those who roll a stone will have it turn back on them. A lying tongue hates those it crushes; a flattering mouth causes destruction.
  • AMP– He who hates, disguises it with his lips, but he stores up deceit in his heart. When he speaks graciously and kindly [to conceal his malice], do not trust him, For seven abominations are in his heart. Though his hatred covers itself with guile and deceit, His malevolence will be revealed openly before the assembly. Whoever digs a pit [for another man’s feet] will fall into it, And he who rolls a stone [up a hill to do mischief], it will come back on him. A lying tongue hates those it wounds and crushes, And a flattering mouth works ruin.

Either you are this man/woman or not.

  • We could make the arguments that we all struggle with sin; that we are on this side of Glory, but are we not to be entering into His rest NOW?
  • Are we not to be becoming “holy for He is holy” NOW?
  • Are we not to transformed into newness of life, NOW?
  • Weren’t we transformed into a new creature the second we accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior?

Jesus Christ isn’t fire insurance. Jesus Christ is this life NOW and in the life to come!

  • My friend, if you are a Child of God, saved by His undeserving grace yet freely given His amazing loving grace called salvation, we are NOT to be this “wicked one.”
  • We ought not to be reigning (living) in our flesh and glorying it. This is contrary to God’s perfect law, will.

How are you doing today, believer? Who is sitting on the throne of your life? Who reigns? God has much bigger plans for you. Stop. Turn to Him and repent. Live the full life in Christ He has planned for you!

You will never regret the choice of Christ!
