The Sting of Death is Earthly

The sting of death never gets any easier. We have experienced its sting enough to know. Monday that sting stung once again, suddenly. Unexpectedly.

Try as you may, you can never fully prepare yourself enough for that sting. You know it will come; you don’t welcome it, but the sting of death is sin and it will come.

Personally, humanly speaking, the hardest is when death stings suddenly. When it springs forth upon you without any warning thus taking your very breath away, stopping you while life continues. Its numbing affect paralysis your functions; our mind tries so hard to catch up, trying to make sense of it all, but it is just overwhelmed by the sudden shock. But the Lord is close to the brokenhearted, gracious and He is our comforter –even in the midst of the deepest valley! Never forget that! NEVER! We have victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Today the Lord reminded me of a little verse in Psalm that says,

This past Memorial Day we lost such a man from our church, suddenly. No warning signs. Just the day before, he worshipped with us in church along side his wife; we were part of a picnic along with him and his wife later that day. He was his glorious self.

Our church family lost a pillar, a man who stood along side his pastor in prayer, support, and burden for our church, a man who loved deeply (God, his wife, family, and friends) and leaves a huge gap in our mist. He was a man of caliber. He was wise and funny!

I think of Heaven.
There is no sting in Heaven only victory! Oh we feel that sting greatly here on Earth because of sin, but heaven is rejoicing. Our dear friend is home. I think of Heaven and how our Lord must be rejoicing to have him home, finally home. To walk with him, to talk with him, to laugh with him, to sing with him. And can you imagine how our friend must feel to be in the very mist of His Savior, to be worshipping his Savior, to be singing for Him, to be giving God all the glory and praise and to see, to finally see Him face to face!

We can only imagine, but our dear sweet, sweet dear friend is living it right now.

Selfishly, I wish he was here. I will miss him, is an understatement and I am not a family member. But I understand the loss of suddenness for our dear friend and my dad passed into eternity the same way almost 2 years apart from each other.

Heaven gets sweeter and sweeter!

  • If you do not know where you will spend your eternity, you can know for sure. I have a page entitled “Eternity” please read it. If you have any questions, I am here! God loves you, friend! I am praying for your salvation!
  • If you are a child of God, how are you doing? Are you loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, strength? Is God your everything? Or have the things of this world gotten in the way of having Christ in first place? If so, make this right today. You don’t know when your start date for eternity will begin.

Make today count for Christ!

Two Small Fries | Matthew 28:19-20

We were recently on vacation. On one of our “meal” stops we had used coupons at this particular fast food restaurant. Happy that we had saved some monies, we took are places and waited for our food. To our surprise, we ended up with two extra drinks, two extra fries, and two extra cheeseburgers.

We prayed for our food and began eating. And yes, we had a conversation on how this had happened. It was clearly my mistake for I did not read the one coupon correctly. We didn’t need the extra drinks, we certainly didn’t want to eat the extra fries, and the cheeseburgers were still up in the air on what we would do with them.

What were we to do?

This is what happened…

We saw. We saw a teen boy sitting on the other side of the building. We asked him if he wanted some fries. He said no.

We continued eating.

By this time more folks had entered the restaurant.

We now saw a couple. We took over the fries, explained to them how we have extra fries and asked them if they would like them. The man smiled, patted his belly happily, said a hearty thank you and they took the fries.

We continued our meal then began the process of cleaning up when this thought came to mind, “Tell them about Me.”

We had shared love with these folks, physically, but their souls were more important than two small fries.

To my shame, my first response was, “I don’t want to bother them again.” Then the Spirit said, “How did you bother them the first time? They were happy to get those fries.” ((Convicted!!!))

Our conversation with the couple wasn’t long, but God-seeds were sown, to God’s glory! They were left with a specific tract that explains the Gospel in detail and we pray that someday they will come to Christ.

Later, as we were back on the highway, my soul was going through more conviction.

  1. I was convicted of my first response to not go. I couldn’t believe that was my first response, but at the same time I could. I was reminded, once again, that my flesh is weak and without Him I can do nothing (Matthew 26:41; John 15:5-7).
  2. I was convicted that if I didn’t go (back) who would tell them about Christ? (Matthew 28:19-20)

You see, we can not rely on other believers to fulfill our God given command. It doesn’t work that way. We are each responsible and accountable to obey. If we all responded like my first response, how would the message of Jesus Christ be proclaimed? It wouldn’t. Because we would be resting or relying on others to do what we ourselves have been commanded to do. And the last time I checked, that’s called disobedience.

Those fries were a tool, even in my mistake God used fries to help us share Himself with a couple who we do not know but God does.

I am glad we obeyed!

How’s your response to the Great Commission?

How do You Bank?

The Lord guides us through His Word; let us take heed and obey.

  • We are to set our affections on things above (Colossians 3:2) and not set our affections in things of this world.
  • Our heart will indicate where our treasure lays (Matthew 6:21). It is our personal meter of Christlikeness or worldliness regardless of who you are.
  • It is not worth having all this world has to offer and not have Christ (Proverbs 15:16). It is not worth it now or later.

Happy Anniversary!!!

Today, May 20th, marks eighteen years of married for my beloved and I, to God’s glory!!! He is my best friend, my best encourager in life. He is Christ-centered, tender yet strong, seeks God first and is a prayer warrior. He is my supporter in life, makes me laugh and one I’d marry a thousand times over. He leads in strength yet gentleness, he is an incredible father that just seems to know when and how with each one of our children and they adore him. He still melts my heart! 💝

It makes me think of people, the lives we live and the influences we have on one another. I’ve heard this quote many times before, but its truth is piercing and reflective, “Are people more like Christ because of you or in spite of you?” In others words, when people ‘hang out’ with you, when they walk away from time spent with you, are they more like Christ because of you or in spite of you? Were they influenced in Christlikeness or did they spend time in fierce battle — seeking God’s protection from your abusive actions or words or lack of them?

I think of my husband. I love who I have become since I became Mrs. Colleen Woodruff. I love to be in his presence because he is in the presence of Christ which continually points me to Christ. Who I was when we married (2000) and who I am today (2018) is quiet different and I am forever grateful to God for that. God has used my husband in my life to sharpen my iron and I pray that I have been that iron back to him in love, graciousness, kindness, and a submissive heart and attitude.

  • Our life verse together (from day one) has been Matthew 6:33. It says, “But seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God and HIS righteousness, and (then) all these things shall be added unto you.” God first! God’s principles first! This has been key in our marriage and one that I am eternally grateful to have a husband who leads as such! And one that I must continue to allow God and my honey to lead in. Trust and submission aren’t bad words; rather they are blessings!
  • Another area that has been the oil that has made our marriage work is this (another biblical principle): forgiveness and keeping offenses short. The Lord has blessed me with a super patient and forgiving husband; one that has taught me what forgiveness is and what it looks likes — what Christ looks like. He’d be the first to say, “I’m not perfect” but he is pretty close! 😘 It has been a blessing to serve the Lord together as one. We are team Woodruff.

We are not perfect, especially me, but I do praise the Lord and give God glory and praise for these marvelous and sometimes challenging 18 years. We have seen much, experienced much, and God is still faithful! May we have many, many, many more to come to serve Him together as ONE!

Truly, thanks for rejoicing with us!

Just Maybe God’s Smarter Than a Human

Have you ever limited God?

In our own minds…at least once, I believe we have. It could have been a fleeting moment, a thought turned to action of, “I’ve got one over” on God. Somehow, someway we think we got our own way, but frankly, who of us could say we have “out-witted” God? Who of us could say we limited God’s plan? Who of us could say I’m more brilliant, wise, all knowing than the Almighty God? Most of us would say, “no one!” yet many of us live, thus act, like it in such subtle ways and justify it.

We can claim things like “I’m human” or “we’re on this side of eternity” and I’d agree with you. We certainly are human; we are most definitely on this side of eternity, therefore, affected by our own sinful nature, but I do beg to differ here. Aren’t we putting God in our own-preconceived-God-box? Isn’t God bigger than our boxed version of Himself? Aren’t we to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, therefore, putting on Christ-likeness?

We protect, we run, we lash out, we whine, we find all sorts of methods to convince ourselves that we are right and somehow God has gotten it wrong. That somehow God doesn’t understand; His plan or will is not what we think is best; we convince ourselves, “I’m the only one” by choice which exalts ourself and debases God.

At some point, we wonder why our outcome is what it is, we grow angry and often times blame the very one we rejected in the first place, God.

So, maybe it is time for a biblical mindset that will lead us to a mind change, heart change thus a life change. If your version of life isn’t working out so well, maybe…just maybe God’s purpose for you is better than what you thought or what you think you want!

  • Jeremiah 29:11-13 “For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”
  • Matthew 6:33 ” But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
  • Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto Me and I will answer thee, and show the great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
  • Psalm 145:18 “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him on truth.”
  • Philippians 4:19 “And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
  • Psalm 119:165 “Those who love Your law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble.”

So just maybe…God’s purpose for you is better than you think.
