Happy Birthday, Dad!

The loss is still there but the memories are forever. It will be three years this July that Dad entered the gates of Heaven. To us it was unexpected and sudden; to God it was planned. “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints” (Psalm 116:15).

At times, it seems like yesterday while other days I can hardly believe it’s been 3 years.

Today, Dad is celebrating his 67th year (earthly speaking) in Heaven, yet we know God is not bound by time, but we remember.

I cannot help but think of how crucial it is that we make our time on Earth count for Christ. We don’t know when out last breath will be; knowing such knowledge should put a spur in our saddle. But why doesn’t it?

  • Life gets busy.
  • Life can get stressful.
  • Life can be sad.
  • Life gets filled.
  • Life can be influenced.

As a child of God we must continually remind ourselves that this too shall pass…life is a vapor (James 4:14). The older I get the more that realization becomes more evident. But should it take “getting older” to realize this?

Whatever age you are, make today count for Christ not self!

We assume tomorrow is promised, but reality is we hold no power over a day, week, month or year.

In this present moment — the right now — that is what we have. You are living it right now, but you have no guarantees of the next…we only think we do. Moments past, those are what we had.

Love God to the fullest; love others to the fullest…for it just may be your last. There are no guarantees of next or later. Only God knows the appointed time.

It was on a night like tonight we received that phone call, one second Dad was here the next he was walking on streets of gold with his Savior. Sometimes there are no warnings, just gone. Don’t wait!

The time is right now…

  • Serve God now!
  • Tell Him you love Him.
  • Show Him you love Him through your obedience, sacrifice, service, devotion, commitment, faithfulness and love.
  • Tell your loved ones, you love them!
  • Don’t wait to make things right…confront if needed now.
  • Repent if needed now.
  • Tell them you forgive them now.
  • Once you are gone it is too late.
  • Once they are gone you will be too late and will hold that burden…wishing you had.

Tomorrow may never happen and you’ll be to late, don’t make that mistake!

Make your relationships right regardless if the other party wants to or not. You be obedient before God. You do what is right before God and leave the results up to Him. You can forgive someone regardless if they own it or not. You be free.

It may be the hardest thing you ever do, but as living proof…it is worth every shacking knee, every teardrop, every fear of confronting. God’s way is the best way. Obedience to God brings no regret. Praise God, I have no regrets. You can too! I am abundantly confident, in Christ, you can. You are empowered. The question is, will you take that step of obedience in faith believing God’s way is the best way?

Today, I rejoice in my Dad, relish in his love for me, remember our relationship freely without regret. I look forward to that glorious day in Heaven when I see Him again. Where I can hug him once more, walk side-by-side together on streets of gold and tell him once again, “Dad, I LOVE YOU!!”

This is my Dad!

I am free to love. I am heaven-blessed. Friend, I pray you are too?

Psalm 116:15 | Is It Death?

Today, bound by time, we celebrate my Dad’s Heavenly promotion to Glory. On Saturday, July 30, 2016 Dad saw his Savior face to face for the first time. We can only imagine, he saw!

We experience 2 years –sometimes seeming forever, sometimes seeming like yesterday, yet for Dad it’s been Glory. Glory just to walk with Him. Glory just to bow before His Maker, Glory just to give praise, Glory just to honor Him, Glory just to serve Him, Glory just to adore Him, Glory just to live with Him. Glory!

We can only imagine, He is living it!

Time is nothing in heaven, it has no hold, no influence, no bond, nothing. It’s a different story here on Earth, doesn’t it?! Time has a real affect.

For me, through deaths we have experienced, time and Glory have grown sweeter.

  • Sweeter in its power of understanding. We have such a short time here on Earth and I must be serious about what God’s will is for me and therefore, accomplish it — period!
  • Sweeter in its purpose. There is no greater purpose in my life than to please, obey, love, serve my Lord, none! My life is for His service, not my own!
  • Sweeter in its plan. This goes along with purpose but focused on God. It’s God’s plan, not mine! See, God is not stupid. To think we have fooled God or gotten one over on God is just plan foolishness. To think, as the creation we are better than the Creator, we are wrong. We deceive ourselves. God is Truth, not our opinion.
  • Sweeter in its place. Heaven is my home, not here. Heaven is where my Savior is and that is where I long to go –when my time on Earth is completed. Heaven is also sweeter because those I love who are with my Savior, are with their Savior.

This is my Dad.

  • Avid woodworker, fisherman, traveler, genealogist, hockey goalie, and Philadelphia Flyers fan. Faithful follower and humble servant of Christ. After his salvation, he grew in his faith and love for the Lord. Attended seminary classes and faithfully served in two churches.
  • One moment Dad was serving the Lord the next he was face to face with his Lord.
  • Love & Miss you Dad! Thankful in Christ we are SAVED, HOPEFUL, EMPOWERED!

The Sting of Death is Earthly

The sting of death never gets any easier. We have experienced its sting enough to know. Monday that sting stung once again, suddenly. Unexpectedly.

Try as you may, you can never fully prepare yourself enough for that sting. You know it will come; you don’t welcome it, but the sting of death is sin and it will come.

Personally, humanly speaking, the hardest is when death stings suddenly. When it springs forth upon you without any warning thus taking your very breath away, stopping you while life continues. Its numbing affect paralysis your functions; our mind tries so hard to catch up, trying to make sense of it all, but it is just overwhelmed by the sudden shock. But the Lord is close to the brokenhearted, gracious and He is our comforter –even in the midst of the deepest valley! Never forget that! NEVER! We have victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Today the Lord reminded me of a little verse in Psalm that says,

This past Memorial Day we lost such a man from our church, suddenly. No warning signs. Just the day before, he worshipped with us in church along side his wife; we were part of a picnic along with him and his wife later that day. He was his glorious self.

Our church family lost a pillar, a man who stood along side his pastor in prayer, support, and burden for our church, a man who loved deeply (God, his wife, family, and friends) and leaves a huge gap in our mist. He was a man of caliber. He was wise and funny!

I think of Heaven.
There is no sting in Heaven only victory! Oh we feel that sting greatly here on Earth because of sin, but heaven is rejoicing. Our dear friend is home. I think of Heaven and how our Lord must be rejoicing to have him home, finally home. To walk with him, to talk with him, to laugh with him, to sing with him. And can you imagine how our friend must feel to be in the very mist of His Savior, to be worshipping his Savior, to be singing for Him, to be giving God all the glory and praise and to see, to finally see Him face to face!

We can only imagine, but our dear sweet, sweet dear friend is living it right now.

Selfishly, I wish he was here. I will miss him, is an understatement and I am not a family member. But I understand the loss of suddenness for our dear friend and my dad passed into eternity the same way almost 2 years apart from each other.

Heaven gets sweeter and sweeter!

  • If you do not know where you will spend your eternity, you can know for sure. I have a page entitled “Eternity” please read it. If you have any questions, I am here! God loves you, friend! I am praying for your salvation!
  • If you are a child of God, how are you doing? Are you loving God with all your heart, soul, mind, strength? Is God your everything? Or have the things of this world gotten in the way of having Christ in first place? If so, make this right today. You don’t know when your start date for eternity will begin.

Make today count for Christ!
