“Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee” (Matthew 26:31-32).
“And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again” (Mark 8:31).
“And Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal” (John 12:23-25).
We all know the “Easter” weekend is upon us. In our home we like to call it Resurrection Sunday. This week, I have settled into the four Gospels; reading through the accounts has been a glorious eye opener. I love when the Holy Spirit does that, don’t you?
We see, once again, a clear picture into Jesus’ heart and His love for His disciples. In the garden, he sweat drops of blood. When is the last time you or I did that because we were in such agony over our sin or a situation?
Despite the physical responses Christ’s body was going through, He still loved, cared, and taught the disciples. Even in His personal suffering, yes, we know He knew it was His God-mission, the weight of knowing what was about to happen was still present. Jesus knew it. God knew it. Sin is ugly!
In these verses above, we see Christ in love–action. Christ took the time to explain…to walk the disciples through what was about to happen. He continued to prepare them for that day, that night and for the tomorrow’s to come; for ultimately their fulfillment of their God-mission.
Did those disciples “get it” at that moment in time, or did they hear the words and not comprehend those spoken words? I think you know the answer to that question. But don’t we do and act the very same way? Yet, Jesus loved them…
