What the Wrong Side of the Bed Taught Me

I woke up on the wrong side of bed.

Five hours was not enough.

  • My eyes were puffy.
  • My head hurt.
  • My mind was irritated.
  • My heart was complaining.

I prayed, “Lord help me. I don’t want to complain. I don’t want to gripe. I don’t want to compare, I’m tired.”

My pitiful attitude came out on those around me (not a proclamation I’m proud of).

I hadn’t had my devotions yet–I was trying. I was getting there. I was trying to get everyone else ready, being a supermom on non-supermom strength (that’s called: no God-strength), but I charged on.

All where safe in there spots.
Then I opened the Word.

  • HA!
  • God has a sense of humor.
  • Well, at least with me He does.

I didn’t notice where my devotions ended the day before, but this is where they begun today:

If I wasn’t convicted enough, and saw my sin, the Lord graciously sent me to,

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples (John 15:5-8).

We can blame our kids, even our husbands, or just people, but let’s be honest with ourselves (I am speaking to myself here) we are just as needy as they are. We are no different. We need God just as much as a child needs or depends upon their parent. As much as we can grow weary, even with our blessings, God never does with us. And you know what, neither should we.

He loves us. We are His children. We are never a burden to Him. He loves us like we love our own children, despite our messiness, our pitiful, wrongful, sinful attitudes, and even when we break His heart. He loves us even more than we love our own children. God loves us because we are His.

This morning I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. It was not anyone else’s fault, but my own. I confessed my sin to the Lord, to my husband and to my children.

  • I didn’t start out right but I am praying through this day that I end well — in HIM, not through myself. Abiding in Him because as His child, I am engrafted into Christ who is my only source of life, strength, power, my everything and it is already there.
  • I chose to cut it off this morning with my foul attitude of self righteousness and pride in the disguise of “tiredness.” Shame on me!
  • I am complete in Christ, not complete in self! I am thankful for the power of His (life-changing) Word this morning! My soul is at rest.
  • How about YOU!

Because I Have Now…

Because I have now…my lips will praise You; because I am not promised the next.

“Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches” Psalm 63:3-6.

a Glass of Ice Water

One of our children went with her Daddy on a visitation call couple days ago. When she came home one of the first things she said to me was this, “Mama, do you know what Mrs. ______ gave me?” Not knowing, I said, “What?” Her reply was one of the most genuine, sweetest, truliest (if that is not a word it is now) of joyful glees, a glass of ICE water!” She was in sheer delight that this woman gave her such a treasure.

It made me think of the verse in Mark “For whosoever shall give you a cup of water in my name because ye belong to Christ, verily I say to you, he shall not lose his reward” (9:41). Matthew says, “And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward” (10:42). But the heart of the matter is “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:34-40).

When is the last time you gave a cup of ice cubed filled water to someone in the love of Jesus Christ?

Our child’s response, who is not a child but is a pre-teen, is rebuking to her mother (me). Her sheer delight is such a pure gift. It is an expression of Christ that I am both proud of yet strickened with rebuke.

  • Do I delight in a cup of iced water?

See, it is not about the glass of ice water, but the inward heart expressed in thanksgiving over that glass of iced water.

  • What a joy this child is to our home.
  • What a heart lesson to behold.

This dear saint left an indelible mark on our child that day, but it also left one on me too; one in which she may never know until heaven, but I’m thankful she served that iced filled glass of water.

Thanks to YOU!

Tonight I received a notice from WordPress proclaiming a congratulations over 50+ WordPress followers…a grand total 51.

I sit here just in goosebumps over God’s goodness. Not because I am something special, that I write grand blogs, or even deserve the Lord’s blessings in blogging, but I do rejoice in His leading, His direction, His words, and His blessing tonight! Thank you LORD!

Thank YOU!! To all those who read, follow and comment on In Christ I am SHE. The Lord has used you in my life to fill my soul with blessings –more than you will ever know. Though we have never met, you bless my soul! Thank you friends!!

I think of the little tricycle that sits in our garage. Oh how those little ones peddle and peddle and peddle their little legs off and usually don’t go very fast –but oh how they love every minute of it. It is fun. As a parent you hear, “Watch me Mom” and you smile then cheer them on to do it again. It is a challenge. It is a new adventure.

I too, image myself on that tricycle called life, called blogging, called mothering, called wife, called a daughter of the King.

  • May I never forget that my Daddy (Abba Father) is watching me.
  • His cheers are for me.
  • His goals are for my best good and to never stop pedaling forward for Christ. Reaching new levels of challenges and God-adventures are just that…God adventures!
  • And because God has a sense of humor –may I never forget to have fun, laugh, enjoy, and work hard to reach my final destination…glory. One peddle at a time.

The same is true for you, my friends. One peddle at a time.

Keep the faith…

Keep blogging for Christ!

Come ye Thankful People, Come!

In our home, school is finished for the week (ya!!!) and the process has begun where mother tells daughters: put your clothes away (I need the laundry baskets back…yes, you will have more laundry to put away 😊), clean up your rooms, fix the pillows & throw blankets in the living room, kitchen duties, feed Lucy (our dog), and oh….let’s make a pot of coffee!

Why? Why are we cleaning the house and putting things away? First, you should see our house, lol! Seriously, because things really do need to be done and it’s a part of life (and learning). Second, tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. It’s time to prepare. After all these things are done, we will begin all the “fun” stuff like: trimmings, desserts, food dishes, new recipes, green bean casserole, and setting the tables all pretty like, etc.

I love Thanksgiving. The smells. The dishes. The ideathe idea of thanks

Thankfulness isn’t linked to our circumstances.

Choosing to be thankful, grateful, having a heart of graditude, joy, isn’t measured or sourced by or changed due to situations, circumstances, people, or even self. Thanksgiving should be a daily spiritual “feast” in which the child of God expresses his or her’s enormous thanks to God because he or she understands without God they are nothing, have nothing…indeed, overwhelmed by the powerful in-depth love that the Father has bestowed unto them.

Are you getting ready for Thanksgiving Day? If not, you’ll get there. Relax, it will all come together. I hope you have a wonderful day spent with family or friends or both!

But let’s not get caught up in the “idea” of thanksgiving and forget the Giver. In reality, a holiday should make no difference in the life of a believer for the heart of thanksgiving should already be a daily occurrance.

Don’t misunderstand me, I love this national holiday, but let’s make a point tomorrow to not forget the Ultimate Giver.

  • Spend time with Him personally before the day gets busy.
  • Make it a point to steer the hearts and minds of those you are with to HIM
  • Take extra specific time giving thanks to the Lord for in whom is due all our praise over your Thanksgiving Day.
  • Create a table setting “I am thankful for…” and share your writings around the table.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Thank you Lord for this encouragement, hope, strength, renewal, and empowerment. Thank you for being for us, with us, and indwelling us. Praise ye the LORD! PRAISE THE LORD! Praise, praise ye the LORD!

joyfulness this first of november

I hope this doesn’t sound trite or lame because it is not meant to be in any way, just joyfulness from my heart.

Today I would just like to proclaim thanksgiving to God and gratitude to you; for the start of November marks almost a full year of blogging.

Over this “almost past year,” I have meet so many wonderful folks (you), read incredible articles from the soul that have both challenged and blessed mine in the process. I have been inspired by you.

It has been great, my writing skills have been tested, and the Lord has used “blogging” to restore my hurting heart and help heal my soul. I have been comforted and refreshed by the tenderness of soul and spirit, and experienced the focus and love for God displayed through your blogs…oh, how this has blessed me! Thank you! Thank you!!! Keep writing. Don’t give up. YOU are a blessing!!!

Thank you Lord for this “almost past year” of blogging. It has been a complete joy and honor to share YOU and your wonderous working power. May you give many more years to proclaim YOU!!!

Your servant,

In Christ I am SHE {Saved. Hopeful. Empowered.}

Thank you all!!!

today counts

thank you Lord for today

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” Col. 3:15-17.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” I Thess. 5:18.

As you walk throughout today, may your choice be Him! Above all else choosing to live Christ-centered, God-focused, and being thank-filled to the One who gave you the very breathe in which you breath right now…for tomorrow is not guaranteed. Today counts!
