Alignment: John 15:5

Have you ever found yourself internally sensing that something in your life is just not…..well, right? That something is missing, you keep trying, striving, but you are one step behind, one try away. I have. I highly dislike the proverbial hamster wheel of “I’m trying…” but seemingly never getting there.

I was reading the other day about alignment. We often think of alignment as being balanced – trying to manage everything well, giving attention to each specific areas of our lives, duties we must do, and making sure nothing is undone. Good, right?

However, wrong. I know ouch, right!

Alignment is not about (you and me) holding everything together. Alignment is living from one source – God – who shapes every area of our life as a whole being.

You see the later is Jesus at the wheel…the other, is you and I on the proverbial hamster wheel thinking we are at the wheel. I know another ouch. I am feeling the same right now.

God’s design for our lives is never meant to compartmentalize: here a little faith, there a little church, over here a little family & friends, over there a little me. God’s design is meant to live as a whole – where everything flows from Him. This is why life is not solved by better balance, but rather by returning to my (thee) right source.

This kind of alignment is a personal choosing, God has already made His clear. Listen to the truth Jesus spoke to us, “I am the vine; you are the branches…apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). A branch does not carry life within itself; it depends entirely on the source to which it is connected. When that connection weakens, everything that depends on it begins to weaken.

Alignment is about remaining connected to Christ, so that everything in our lives is shaped and directed by Him. How we carry out what has been entrusted to us no longer is fulfilled by self effort but rather driven and sustained by our personal, intimate relationship with God – apart from me you can do nothing.

So, the bigger question(s) to ask ourselves is this: What or who is shaping the way I think? Who has my life-wheel? Am I living self effortly or God effortly?

Lord, teach me to live from the right source – you not me. I raise my hands, palms up, giving my life to you…shape me, so that my life is whole and aligned in you and with Your will. Amen.”

In Christ I am SHE [Saved. Healed. Empowered.]
