The Blessedness of the Fear of the Lord

Psalm 128

Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in His ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord. The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel.

The Word of God is so precious. While reading this Psalm in family devotions several things pricked my heart. I am no theologian, but I am so thankful how the Lord has used Psalm 128 on this heart of mine.

  1. The fear of the Lord is not fearful. My fear is man-made….made from within my own heart due to my conscious choice to walk in disobedience and unpure, tainted worship towards God. This may sound strong, critical, or even harsh, but when I get real with myself, this is the root of my fear. When a person chooses to walk in surrendered obedience, worship of God, and walks in His ways and lives out His Word accordingly—blessed, happy, sheltered by God’s grace is that person who fears the Lord.
  2. If you are married, husband’s listen up (those who live the Word) you are blessed BUT NOT ONLY YOU, BUT YOUR WIFE as well. Now ladies, I don’t know about you, but this gives me goosebumps. How precious it is to obey the Word…and obey the Word of God together as ONE –as a team! I love this!
  3. Children–when I read verse three I can see little ones around the table chattering, giggling and snacking in lace and pearls. When our little ones were younger we called them OT1, OT2 OT3 = Olive Tree 1, Olive Tree 2, Olive Tree 3 (it was our code until they figured it out…😉). Side note: What do you do when you want “Olive Trees” running around in your home but it doesn’t seem to happen, or it isn’t going to happen? I could write a whole blog or more on this subject (because it is dear to my heart), but if I could write one statement to your struggling or hurting heart, it would be this. “God loves you. Child or not. I know the struggle for real, because we have been told “you can’t have any”…then, “it will be next to impossible”…but, we did. Had OT1 & OT2, then lost one through a tubal pregnancy that ended up rupturing, and the process started all over again. This time it was OT1 & OT2 nighty prayer for “a baby in Mama’s belly” that took almost two years, but our “God has answered” (OT3…that is what her name means) was spotted. Praise God indeed, but fear abounded in new levels. (That is another story.) All this to say, you and your honey are one…you are a family. It is dangerous ground to allow our God-given desire become “mine” –an all-consuming-selfish desire. This will ruin your oneness with your spouse and God, who is the author of life. I don’t have the answer to why some of us “can never” or why some of us “loss and grieve beyond words” or why some of us are “overflowing“. But this I do know: God love us (just look at the Cross) and whatever state we are in, we are to be content? Ouch, I know! Yes, easier said than done, but aren’t all things possible with to those who love God? Love you sisters and brothers. The struggle is real, but God is too! My prayers are with you.
  4. Okay, my “side note” was a long note. 😘
  5. Let’s just read verse four to six: “Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord. The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel.What is done today affects tomorrow and literally our generations to come. We can do nothing without Christ in us–well, things of eternal value! As Paul exhorted Timothy, stick to the Word! Be in it daily! Feast on it, mediate on it, allow it transform you. Allow Christ be your life! Christ gave His life for us on Calvary (if you do not know Christ personally. I encourage you to click on this link given; it will explain much more: https://inchristiamshe.com/eternity/).

    How can we not give Christ are all?
    We claim this life as our own, but is it really?

In Christ I am SHE {Saved. Hopeful. Empowered.}
